Petoor oupa / Gerda

Beste Low-Landers
't Woord petoor oupa is miskien verbastering van 't Nederlandse woord
"betovergrootvader".
In die Afrikaanse taal beteken 't:  ooroorgrootvader, ook
betoorgrootvader of voor 't vergelyk ooroor-oupa, betoor-oupa.
Die term bet is in 't Middelnederlands die komparatief by "wel" en
"goet"
(bet geboren, bet sijn met, hooger aangeschreven zijn bij
(Middelnederlansch Handwoordenboek, J.Verdam, 1964).
Van Dale noem die term "bet": (verouderd) als "beter".
Die term "bet" kom voor in 't Afrikaans maar "pet" het ek nie in die
Afrikaanse woordeboeke nie gesien, en miskien is 't ook nie 'n
korrek woord volgens die gangbare spelling. Ek het ook nie gehoor van 'n
klankwissel b -> p
in Afrikaans.
