Dear Lowlanders,

Here are two poems (songs) I wrote last fall.  Happy Robert Burns day!

Yours Forever...

O' that I might touch your cheek,
with a whisper o my lips that brush so meek,
An yes, like a rose I would blossom in your touch
an so freely with a gentle bloom o blush.
The meekest strokes o light, that settle on your hair,
'Twould be the palest strokes, that glitter in the air,
An hair so fair cups with reborn charm,
Gives peace an comfort where there was alarm.
My gift o self I give to thee,
with a whisper o my touch an gentleness be,
So take my heart my faithful one,
'Tis yours for e'er an e'er, not undone.

My love is a Rose...

Ma love is a Rose that blossoms in the spring,
O' Daffodils an Mums that lightly gentle bring,

The peace an joy o knowing an everlasting love,
That never wilts or darkens an softens as a Dove,

Our feelings for each other in one united bond,
In never ending friendship that blossoms e'er yon

Please take my hand dear friend an lead me to the place,
Where Daffodils and Roses, grow in perfect grace...

I've always thought it sounded like it, and since I'll be putting the
Scots version on my website it would be interesting to be able to explain

O, eah, we sang it awraat. But Aa don't reckon at hit's Appalachian in
hit's arjin. Aa heerd at ol Froggy was Sir Francis Drake. O course, hit
makes th rest o hit a maat racy te thank on, what wi guid Queen Bess
spost te be a lady an aw. We'll jest let that alone an say at Aa always
heerd at th song was Inglish. We have bin a-sangin hit fer a whaal, so's
the varsion ye bin a-thankin on maat wail be called Appalachian.

We sing it, right enough. I do not think, though, that the song is of
Appalachian origin. I always heard that Froggy was Sir Francis Drake.
Since such speculation offers offence to some sensibilities and
besmirches the good repute of Elizabeth I, we draw the curtain of decency
and merely remark that the song is reputed to be English. We have been
singing the song long enough for the version that you encountered to be
called Appalachian.
