3. A 150 pp text about the Maas valley variety of Limburgish from the
(former) municipality of Boorsem (Belgian Limburg) can be downloaded from:

I had no problems with the pdf acrobat version (I couldn't manage to open
the rtf version in Word 2000)
(This site was presented in "Het Belang van Limburg" of July 1, 2000.)

4. This week I got the summer issue of "Oos Platt" from the Arbeitskreis
Mundart (Kreis Heinsberg) (This magazine is issued 2x / year). Some of the
municipalities of this district in Germany are linguistically rather
Limburgish, others are rather Ripuarish. Be aware publications from within
Germany look more German than they are, because of the orthography, and I
guess, authors also adjust a bit to their public.

A sample in Selfkant Platt, quote from p. 3-4:

5. In the "Belgisch Israelitisch Weekblad" of June 30. 2000 one finds an
article covering 2 full pages about the restauration of the library of the
Portugese Jewish community of Amsterdam.
- quote (in Dutch):
Grote vreugde onder de Portugese joden in Nederland: de renovatie van "Ets
Haïm", de oudste joodse bibliotheek ter wereld, wordt deze dagen voltooid

Most of the books have temporarely been in Israël, and are now returned.
Inventory drafting will still take a couple of years, quote:
Rosenberg: "Dan beginnen we met de verdere catalogizering. We willen alle
gegevens invoeren in de computer. Ik schat dat dat een jaar of drie gaat
duren."

There may be some old West-Jiddish literature included (?), quote:
De bibliotheek telt dertigduizend titels...
De collectie bevat waarschijnlijk meer Jiddische literatuur dan literatuur
in het Ladino, de Spaans-joodse taal van de Sefardiem.

Roger,

I have a feeling that the poem above falls on the Limburgish side of the
devide, which is why I wrote [L] for language.

There are some very un-Saxon elements, such as occasional k>ch (e.g.,
_och_, _dech_; cf. Northern Saxon  _ook_, _die_/Eastphalian _dik_ ~ _dek_),
t>sch (_heescht_, cf. NS _heett_), and there are atypical vowel situations
(e.g., _örm_, _versteht_, _jeht_, _Värke_, _störve_, _örve_, cf. NS _arm_,
_verstait_, _gait_, _Farken_, _starven_, _arven_).

_Kalle(n)_ for 'to speak' is also usually associated with the area just
southwest of the Saxon borderline.  It is _snacken_, _spreken_, _praten_,
etc. in the Saxon dialects.

I'm not sure, though.  I think those of you who are more familiar with
Limburgish might be able to tell more clearly.  Perhaps it's even a
borderline variety.
