Subject: English Compounds!!!
Hello Dear Friends!
I will be very pleasent if somebody from you could
tell or refernce me to a book or so, about how it is
the supposed compounds of the English language in
percentages that is:
Saxon x%
Angle y%
Frisian t%
French z%
Norse a%
Latin b%
Greek d%
etc.,etc.
I know the question could sound ambigous (besides the
fact that it could have no precise answer or any at
all) but it would become clearer if you relate these
percentages of rate of change over the evolution of
the language. I mean: it comes first the
the saxon 100%, then the angle x%, then the frisian or
so, and then latin x%, then celtic x%, and so on.
The idea is to get an historical picture of how could
it have been influenced thru time in percententual
rate of assimilation of words (and maybe in structure
-grammar- too as from latin) from the others language
to which it was been exposed and influenced in its
constitution. OK?
Thanks!!
