I bought two books by Groth in Germany today, and both have an orthgraphy
different from the two types above:

So, the obvious (stupid) question any outsider may formulate. Which one of
these all is the right orthography?

Yes, it is someone else's adaptation to the Fehrs orthography, assumedly
because the publication is supposed to be used for educational purposes,
and the readers are not supposed to be confused (i.e. confused any more
than they already are by the general orthographic mess, including the
inconsistencies inherent in the German-centered Fehrs system itself).

Hansen's version is obviously not the original one; nor is the Dutch-based
orthographic transliteration I presented here for the edification of LL-L
readers.  Groth himself used an even worse system than the ones that are in
current use in Northern Germany.  The original version he published is
presented at <http://www.geocities.com/sassisch/rhahn/kramer/groth.html>
and goes like this:

           Min Modersprak

           Min Modersprak, wa klingst du schön!
           Wa büst du mi vertrut!
           Weer ok min Hart as Stahl un Steen,
           du drevst den Stolt herut.

           Du bögst min stiwe Nack so licht
           as Moder mit ern Arm,
           du fichelst mi umt Angesicht -
           un still is alle Larm.

           Ik föhl mi as en lüttjet Kind,
           de ganze Welt is weg.
           Du pust mi as en Værjahrswind
           de kranke Boss torecht.

           Min Obbe folt mi noch de Hann'
           un seggt to mi: "Nu be!"
           Un "Vaderunser" fang ik an,
           as ik wul fröher de.

           Un föhl so deep: dat ward verstan,
           so sprickt dat Hart sik ut.

As you can see, it is totally German-based, with hardly any differentiation
between short and long vowels, let alone differentiation between diphthongs
and long vowels.  (Added to this in many of Groth's publications is the use
of "æ" where "œ" is more appropriate for /øø/ -- apparently a consistent
error on the part of the typesetters.)

Because the spelling is so unreliable, I had provided a phonetic version in
my earlier posting.
