Strange how sounds are perceived differently from another perspective (I
live near Aberdeen). Is "Whot is't" the phrase which I would have written
as 'Fit's at?'? And the other word is usually written 'Fittret' or
'Futtret' - I'm aware neither of a diphthong in the first syllable nor an
'oo' sound in the second - it seems to me to be [fVtr at t]. (The word
actually means 'weasel' but is also used of ferrets. In Shetlandic it is
'whitrat' [W3tr at t] and means 'stoat'.)
