Well, it happens so that in my dialect both forms are used. For instance,
we can say _daarop_ and _d'rop_. Usually _d'r_ is used, but when one
wants to be specific, one uses _daar_.

At 08:00 PM 04/09/01 -0700, various people wrote about uses of "there" in
English, such as:

To a lesser extent it shows up in English words: thereupon,
therewith, therein, but these survive only as fixed words; you
can't make new ones (there is no *thereconcerning or
*thereopposite), nor can you split them up as in Platt etc.
("Daar hebb ik nix vun.").
You also get the idiom "there is/are/were etc. ..."

There's also the more recent expression:  "Don't go there" having the sense of
"Don't talk about that", as well as expressions such as "Hey, you're lookin'
pretty good there," both of which demonstrate that English retains much of the
idiomatic possibilities of this word.  But then there's HG "Dasein", which was
rendered as "Being-there" in MacQuarrie and Robinson's translation of
Heidegger's Being and Time, so I guess it's not a perfect match.... and it's
certainly not as pervasive.
