That root's related to English _wade_ (and Lat. _invade_ for
that matter); it never had any initial _k_, which you'd need for
quath-. It is true that southwest Norwegian dialects and
Icelandic have changed hw- to kv (_hwat_ "what" is pronounced
[kvat, kvaD] etc.), but there was no _h_ in _hvadan_, nor did I
find any relevant Scandinavian words starting in hwad-, alas.
