Thank you, Ole Stig, for the very elegant, clear and elaborate
explanation of the Danish counting system which is so different
from that used in the other Scandinavian languages.

Relics of a different counting system, base 20, is documented
for Salling, Thy and Vendsysel in Jutland.

A a system like the following was used by the fishermen
at Sallingsund:

 1..19: 1 .. 19,
20..39: 20, (1+20) .. (19+20),
40..59: 40, (1+40) .. (19+40),
60..79: (3*20), (1+(3*20)) .. (19+(3*20)),
80..99: (4*20), (1+(4*20)) .. (19+(4*20))

Note:
Danish _tyve_ (_tyw_ in Jutish) is derived from
_tiughu_='tens' (plural) and implicitly =2*10='(twen)ty'.
So _tyve_ is 20 except in the case of _fyrre-tyve_ .
Danish _fyrre-tyve_=40 (_fyri-tyw_ in Sallingsund Jutish)
is explicitly derived from 4(*)10='four-ty'='four tens'.
Danish _fyrretyve_ is normally abbreviated to _fyrre_,
Sallingsund Jutish _fyrityw_ likewise to _fyri_.

some examples from the Sallingsund counting system:

30 ti-å-tyw 'ten-and-(twen)ty'
31 øl-å-tyw 'eleven-and-(twen)ty'
32 töl-å-tyw 'twelve-and-(twen)ty'
33 trætn-å-tyw 'thirteen-and-(twen)ty'
39 netn-å-tyw 'nineteen-and-(twen)ty'
40 fyri-tyw 'four-ty'
45 fæm-å-fyri 'five-and-four(ty)'
51 øl-å-fyri 'eleven-and-four(ty)'
52 töl-å-fyri 'twelve-and-four(ty)'
60 tre-sn-s-tyw 'three-times-of-(twen)ty'
72 töl-å-tre-sn-s-tyw 'twelve-and-three-times-of-(twen)ty'
