I removed these (3) and replaced them, for a couple of days, with some
(6) chansons.
The Flemish chanson inherited quite a lot, especially it's simplicity I
think, from the French chanson.

1. This week Gilbert Bécaud died. What song can be more simpler as:
"Quand il est mort le poète".

The cornflowers (buets) in the corn field are to me the complementary
flowers to the poppies from the poem "In Flander's Fields"

2. The "good" French song is three times nothing (trois fois rien)

3. But a very simple topic as "the see" "La Mer" can give inspiration
for a marvelous song:

4. Willem Vermandere develops a song of 4.6 min in _West-Flemish_ (from

5. In the fifties Jo Erens made a nice, but very simple, song, in
_Limburgish_ (from Sittard) about the swallow (announcing the spring):

6. For ending, as we begun, with flowers:
the sad story of a lady, Irma la Boche, who buys herself some flowers
every Sunday, outcasted as she is, since she was a girlfriend of a Dosch
(German soldier) during WWII:

So, for me, the simplicity, that can make poetry very strong, is shared
by French and Flemish (Flemish, Brabantish, Limburgish) chansons.
