Yes, according to Eric V. V. Gordon's _Introduction to Old Norse_ it *is* a
loanword from Middle Low German _men_ and is classified as East Norse.
Apparently it has now replaced the older _enn_ even in Nynorsk. Olav T.
Beito
(Nynorsk Grammatikk, Lyd- og ordlære) says, " _men_ frå sv. og da., kanskje
av
gda. _medhen, men_ med påverknad frå mnt. _men_." [mnt. = mellomnedertysk]
--
Trans.: _men_ from Swed. and Dan., probably from Old Dan. _medhen, men_
under
the influence of MLG _men_.
It's also _men_ in Faroese, where _*en(n)_ doesn't seem to be used any
longer,
either. Undoubtedly also under Danish influence.
That's all I could find.

Al Brothers
