Subject: Research on East Frisian Platt in the US

Hi, all together !
Can You tell me: Is there (or has been) any research about use and
developement of East Frisian Platt among descendants of immigrants in the
US?
In the web I found some hints about Low-Saxon in general but none about the
East Frisian variant in special.
For my own research on the subject (see: http://www.holger-weigelt.de) I'm
interested in facts about the developement of this language under English
dominance instead of German and about the different state of conservation
of elder vocabulary, grammatical and phonetical structures compared with
East Frisian Platt in Germany.

Dear Lowlanders,

The October 2001 issue of INS Presse news is out.  The Institute för
Niederdeutsche Sprache (Institute for Low German Language) in Bremen makes all
issues available in ("High") German:

Here is a brief English summary of three highlights of interest to people
outside Northern Germany (and the Institute apparently does not deal with the
dialects in the Eastern Netherlands).

(1) Germany's Low Saxon (Low German) language community complains to an expert
commission of the Council of Europe that the European Charter for Regional and
Minority Languages has been applied to it insufficiently, if at all.  The
community is nowhere near becoming self-sufficient, but its progress is being
hampered by insufficient information and support from relevant administrative
bodies in Germany.  Representatives of the community claim that
language-related information furnished by the North German states portraits
the situation in unduly rosy light.  The final report by the expert commission
is expected in January 2002, and the real-life application of the Charter will
be reexamined again in 2003.

(2) _De lütte Puh-Boor Winnie_ is the title of Arnd Immo Richter's Low Saxon
(Low German) translation of A. A. Milne's _Winnie the Pooh_ (Nidderau: M.
Naumann, 160 pp., ISBN 3933575621, DM 26.00, Euro 13.29).  Pooh's and
Christofer Robin's friends are called Farken, I-Ah, Kängu, Lütt Ruh and
Heffenklump.  (Guess who's who!)

(3) The Carl-Toepfer-Stiftung hosts its fourth Low Saxon (Low German) book
fair in Hamburg's Lichtwarksaal on November 17 and 18.
