Yn it nijste nûmer fan "Onze Taal" stie in aardich artikel
oer de etymolooch de Tollenaere. Yn dit stik komt er ek te praten oer
wurden
dêr't er de etymology noch net fan wit, en neamt as foarbyld it Hollânske
_sjouw_ yn 'e betsjutting "sein aan de mast van een schip".
No kin ik dit wurd yn it Frysk ek as _sjeau_ [sjo:], en dan hoecht it net
perfoarst yn in nautyske betsjutting brûkt te wurden, mear as in sein dat
fan fierren al te sjen is. It Frysk wurdboek joech fierders as farianten
_sjou_ [sjo.u] en _weau_ [wjo:] (it lêste by _weau_ = Hollânsk _wuif_ (mei
de hân, fl. WF _wiuwe_, Nl. _wuiven_, = to wave with one's hands). Boppedat

neamt de Tollenaere de foarm _schou_ dy't de Ruyter yn syn priveskriften
brûkt. Soe dit lêste in hyperkorreksje wêze om't syn Siuwske dialekt _sj_
hie foar algemiener _sch_ ?
En wat is de etymology? Hat it mei _schouwen_ (Nl.) , WFr _skôgje_
te krijen = wierskynlik Ing. _to show_. Oars: _skôgje_ is "sjen", mar
_sjeau_ hat mei "sjen litte" te krijen.. En de _sj_ is it Frysk dan nuver..
