   Mi is lestdaags wedder 'n old neddersassisch (nedderdüütsch) Leed in
de Mööt kamen, dat ik as Jung kennen deed'.  De Spraak na to oordelen is
dat vun 't 17de Jahrhunnerd, villicht vun 't 16de.  Man hier un daar
dücht mi de Spraak un de Schrievwies' 'n lütt beten "modern," un de Form
"Kerk" för "Kark" is vundagigendaags raar un klingt wat "hollandsch."
Ook klingt "se" för objektiv "jüm" nich old.  Un fehlt daar amenn een or
mehr Strophen (twüschen Strooph 2 un 3)?  Ik wull geern weten, of wen
mank Ju Togang to de Orginaalversioon hett or mehr över düt Leed weten
dait.  Ji findt dat ünnen, achter an mien ingelsch Översetten.

Dear Lowlanders,
   Recently I came across an old Low Saxon (Low German) song that I used
to know in my childhood.  Judging by the language, it is from the 17th
century, perhaps from the 16th.  But here and there the language and the
spelling seem somewhat "modern," and the form _Kerk_ for _Kark_ 'church'
is nowadays rare and sounds a bit "Dutch."  "Se" for objective "jüm"
'them' does not sound old either.  And might there be some verses
missing (between the 2nd and 3rd)?  I would like to know if any of you
has access to the original version or knows more about this song.  You
will find it below, followed by my English translation.
