Unicode seems to work best with newer browsers, make sure the browser is
CSS
enabled (Cascading Style Sheets)
The Font Lucida Sans Unicode has to be installed If I remember correctly
this is part of the standard package of Win98+
Other Unicode fonts are Arial Unicode MS, Code 2000

Strangely the length mark works in NS6 but not in MS Explorer 6.0 but
the
Centralized (Umlaut) and less rounded marks don't work in NS 6 while
they do
in MS Exlporer 6.0
Its a mystery to me.

Thanks, Sandy and Andy. This was helpful.
Andy, I have to apologize for having been so obsessed with not being
able to read the IPA symbols right away that I impulsively asked for
help before properly reading the excellent instructions on your page
(http://www.scots-online.org/airticles/phonetics.htm). In the meantime
I have done the required thing and am now able to read the symbols,
including the length symbol. I will study this Unicode thing more
thoroughly, because it will come in extremely handy for various
projects. (I can't wait to test it for non-Latin-based scripts.)
Before I installed the Lucida font, I designated the view mode to use MS
Arial Unicode (in IE 5+), which I did have. It worked for various pages
but not for yours for some reason.
I read that the font MS Arial Unicode is the most complete. ("Most
complete"?! Well, you know what they mean.) But it is a very large
file.
There are also good instructions and resources here, including an IPA
keyboard program for those who input IPA a lot:

Thanks a lot, Sandy and Andy! Your pages offer superb resources and
a great deal of inspiration.
Regards,
Reinhard/Ron
