I have run into a citation from the Old Frisian, I believe, of a woman /
shaman / goddess figure named "Walubera," which the author translated as
"Stick-Bearer," and likened to the Seidhkona of the Old Norse. I have
wondered if this name Walubera could have any connection with the later
Walburga, as in "Walpurgisnacht." I have always wondered about the
origins
of this "Saint" Walburga / Walpurga. Evidently, her cloister in Southern
Germany was named "Heidenheimer Kloster," which translates as
"Heathen-Home." Very curious.

Happy New Year to all,

Dawn in Des Moines
