Dear Lowlanders,

Anyone interested in Westerlauwer ("West") Frisian ought to check out or
revisit the website of the Frisian Academy (Frysk Akademy):
http://www.fa.knaw.nl/

It is available in W. Frisian, Dutch and English.  Click on any "button" on
the left, and then click on one of the three language symbols (the Union Jack,
i.e., the British flag, _à l'européenne_, representing English.).

Especially noteworthy is an offering of four digital Frisian language corpora:
        (1) Modern Frisian
        (2) 19th-Century Frisian
        (3) Middle Frisian
        (4) Old Frisian.

A zipped (compressed) version of a Westerlauwer Frisian spellchecker for MS
Word versions 97-2000 can now be downloaded for free!

STAVERINGSHIFKER TE BESETTEN FIA YNTERNET
Al wat langer is de staveringshifker foar Microsoft Word 97/2000 yn 'e
boekhannel te keap foar 29,75 gûne/€ 13,50. Dy priis bestiet foar in grut part
út de kosten om it programma op diskette te krijen en te fersprieden. Om't de
staveringshifker net befeilige is en elkenien der sadwaande in kopy fan
meitsje kin, hat de Fryske Akademy besletten om it programma ek fia de webside
oan te bieden. Op it stuit kinne jo de staveringshifker foar Microsoft Word
97/2000 ek fan ús website helje. Dêr binne gjin fierdere kosten ferbûn. It
giet om in ynpakte ferzje, dy bestiet út in hanlieding en it
staveringsprogramma setupFrysk.exe

SPELLCHECKER DOWNLOADEN VIA INTERNET
De spellingchecker van Microsoft Word 97/2000 is sinds enige tijd in de
boekhandel te koop voor ƒ 30,00. De prijs gaat voor een groot gedeelte op aan
kosten om het programma op diskette te krijgen en te verspreiden. Omdat de
spellingchecker niet beveiligd is en er door iedereen een kopie van kan worden
gemaakt heeft de Fryske Akademy besloten om het programma ook via de webpagina
aan te bieden. Op dit moment is het mogelijk de spellchecker van Microsoft
Word 97/2000 van onze webpagina te halen. Er zijn geen kosten aan verbonden.
Het gaat om een gecomprimeerd bestand, dat bestaat uit een handleiding en het
spellingsprogramma setupFrysk.exe

FRISIAN SPELLING CHECKER CAN BE DOWNLOADED FOR FREE!
The spelling checker for Microsoft Word 97/2000 is sold at the bookshop for
thirty (30) guilders. The costs stemmed mainly from getting the spelling
checker on disks and distributing them. The  spelling checker was not
protected against copying. The Frisian Academy has now decided to offer the
spelling checker for free on the Internet. The spelling checker, including the
spelling program setupFrysk.exe and a manual, can be downloaded as a zip-file
from the website of the Frisian Academy.
