Subject: intro reactions remarks

liefste laaglanders,
na enkele interessante berichten te hebben gelezen, wil ik ook wel actief
deelnemen aan een aantal gesprekken onder jullie.
Ik heb enkele opmerkingen wat samengebundeld.

1 voor mevr. Fleming
Plezante rijmpjes die "cobbling grace".
Enkele opmerkingen vanuit mijn Vlaamse taal:
* cobblin  -kibbelen=kijven (E to quarrel)
           -koppermaandag=koppelmaandag (E cobblersmonday)=verre maandag,
einde van de heerschappij van de koning van de boon.
           -kobbe=spin
                 =hoogste deel van een gebogen stuk land
*goos horn -goospenninc=godes penninc (E gods)

2 voor mevr. Margot

*prusten=D proesten (uitbarsten in lachen)
*blauwe knoop -schorteblauw= lakmoes (colouring agent)
              -schorteblauw zien: Er heel koud uitzien
              -knoop=E a knot
                    =vloek (E a curse)
              -blauwmesse=donkermesse=slechte dingen doen in het duister
              -blauwen=smokkelen

3 voor mr Hahn

*plat spreken: betekeniswijziging van platte landstaal (flat land) naar
boertige taal, de tegenpool van cultuurtaal
Nu betekent het: Hij kan alleen maar dialect spreken.
*snakken
In het West-Vlaams hebben we veel woorden die "spreken" betekenen, allemaal
met een verschillende nuance:
snakken-klappen-babbelen-kouten-kallen(archaïsch)-blaffen-spreken-praten-pra
telen-zeggen...
Hij klapt in m'n redens=E He is interrupting me.
*graag
is D voor het Vlaamse gaarne - gerne
Uitdrukkingen: Ik zie da gerne.
               'k Houde daovan.
               'k hè da gerne
               'k magge dadde (gerne).
               Da bevalt mij.
               't Is van lekt mijn liptje (voedsel).
* Diets
Het woord diets is bij ons een gewoon woord geworden. Wij zeggen : Ik ga je
dat diets maken = Ik ga je dat uitleggen.
diets = het volk, of de taal van het volk.
Waar werd dat woord gebruikt?
In de 11de eeuw bestaan Dietse lofzangen te Sint-Omaars (nu Frankrijk).
In de Vita Sancti Bertini (860-878) staat er
       Ipse simul celsas theotisce discerat odas
Of: hoe een monnik lofzangen in het Diets aanheft.
Er bestaat een Lodewijkslied (881) dat men bij het Hoog-Duits rangschikt
maar dat voor mij toch veel meer West-Vlaams is. Dat ligt nu in de
bibliotheek van Valenciennes(Frankrijk).
De bisschop Joris van Amiens gebruikt in 786 het woord theodisk (Diets).
Sint-Maarten, de bisschop van de stad Tours (Loire Frankrijk) vraagt zich af
of zijn preken of boeken moeten moeten worden vertaald vanuit het latijn
naar de taal van het volk (4de eeuw! Het Frans bestond nog niet)
Diets-theodisc-thiois(Fr)-Francique(Fr) = de taal die de Vlamingen spraken
in de (pre)middeleeuwen.
Wie vindt ouder?

Ik ben nu al twee jaar abonnee van een vereniging die tijdschriften
uitbrengt over de gechiedenis van de volkeren tussen de Somme en de Elbe in
de periode tussen 100BC en AD 1200. Heel interessant en een aanrader.
Die mensen hebben ook een website.
Ik vind het vooral leuk omdat zij controversiële onderwerpen niet uit de weg
gaan.

Heeft u de adress?

I am sending your posting out under the heading "Introduction," but I ask that
people respond to specific points of yours under the corresponding separate
headings ("Etymology," "Expressions," "History," "Literature," etc.)

For future reference, LL-L issues are sent out under separate topic headings,
and bundling of topics is not allowed.  In other words, topics are to be kept
separate, as explained in the Rules and Guidelines
