the "frituur" or "fritkot" is as popular over here as a "MacDonalds" is
in the US;
in Belgian French: "friture" and also "fritterie")

Hubert vom Venn publishes as well in Platt as in German.

I'm I little bit wondered about:
"Hier Komise - dor Schandërms!"
since the song deals with the Dutch-German border,
and I didn't realise these words were used over there.

In Belgium:

"Kommies" traditionally the federal policeman specialised in control on
tax on sigarettes and alcohol.

"Gendarm" the federal policemen. In super-pure Belgian Dutch, for
avoiding romance vocabulary, the word is replaced with "rijkswachter",
in dialects "gendarm" remained though.

A recently enacted law prepares a merger of all kinds of police in
Belgium, as:
- the municipal police of large towns: in Dutch this refers to the
"politieman", in Leuven student slang "flik", in older student slang,
still surviving in songs "pandoer"
- the municipal police of small villages: the "veldwachter",  but in
dialects "sjampetter", "gard-sjampetter", in my Limburgish from
Vliermaal we called him the "boi" though. After the municipal merger of
1975 virtually all of them have been absorbed in "municipal police"
departments.
- the "Rijkswacht" or "Gendarmerie"
- the judicial police "Gerechtelijke politie"
into a one  "federal police" (be it with "local antennas").
This all as an action from the improvement list drafted by a
partliamentary commision investigating the poor performance as to
finding missed children.
