Dear Lowlanders,

Thanks to Luc Vanbrabant, we now have a West Flemish version of our
welcoming page (http://www.sassisch.net/rhahn/lowlands/). Thanks, Luc!

I have taken this opportunity to "clean up" the index page, the other
welcome versions and the rules pages.  Please let me know if I missed
anything.

Actually, if all goes to plan, our web pages will soon undergo a
facelift. I will announce it if and when it happens.

The new look would harmonize with that of our "blurb" pages (introducing
our language varieties), a project that is currently in the making.  And
let me remind you that we still need volunteer writers and translators
(French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, or any other language).  It would
be *very* nice if people would volunteer to write "blurbs" for English
(!), Appalachian, Dutch, Zeelandic, and Western Flemish.  "Sub-blurbs"
-- small subordinate free-essay-style introductions -- of any kind,
about any variety (even the "smallest" dialect) and about any relevant
topic, would be welcome, definitely for Shetlandic, Ullans, and
Plautdietsch and various other Lowlands Saxon dialects (especially of
the Netherlands and outside Europe), also about any Lowlandic-based
contact variety (i.e., pidgin or creole, or any other type of "mixed"
variety, such as Missingsch, Westfries or Stadfrysk).  No, you do not
have to be a very good writer or a linguist to write about something
dear to your hearts, something people would find interesting, something
that teaches people anywhere in the world about the languages and
cultures we care about on this list.

Also, we need small language samples to go along with the various
blurbs.
(A couple of people have suggested privately that we add sound samples.
A nice idea, but at this juncture still pie in the sky, given that it
seems hard enough to round up volunteers for the relatively simple
writing project.)
