From: "Friedrich-Wilhelm.Neumann" <Friedrich-Wilhelm.Neumann at epost.de>
Subject: "Dialectical Purism"
Hi, Ron, Low- and Leeglanners,
there is one special thing in LL-L discussions making me headache.
Specially in the Low-Saxon-region in Northern Germany we have got
several,
different autonomous dialects of our language.
Being engaged in LL-L postings I often feel like a traitor of my home
language ( I am native speaker since my young years), when using words,
that
only SEEM to be Low-German, but in fact are just translations from Upper
German or loaned from other (regional) dialects.
The differences between these special, regional dialects are
considerably,
at some times, but- and that doesn't make things easier- not always.
Every language is a "living matter", of course, but- how to conservate
minority, when following maiority?
On the other side: if we want to keep our Low-German alife, we have to
unite, to get more influence in educational systems.
I'm almost sure You have been discussing this theme in former
LL-L-times,
but- as a newcomer- I should be glad to hear Your nowadays opinions.
Regards
Fiete.
