Unless I'm mistaken, "ruck" in English "rucksack" (knapsack, backpack)
is from the same root.  And "rucksack" has been borrowed into Russian as
"ryukzak."

Kevin,

_Rucksack_ is a Swiss Alemannic loanword in German, from _Ruggsack_
(which would be *_Rückensack_ if it were Standard German, *_Rüggsack_ or
*_Rüchsack_ if it were Lowlands Saxon).  Alemannic varieties, especially
those of the south (mostly Switzerland, some in far southwestern German
and in farwestern Austria) did not umlaut as much, and _Rugge_ or _Rugg_
are the words for 'back'.
