[English Version Follows]

At lang an lenth Scots-Online haes gotten roond tae pittin an
interactive
English tae Scots "dictionar" on the wab. The dictionar is, o coorse,
only
sae guid as the database ahint it.

In the maist strict sense o the wird it canna be conseedert a richt
dictionar but mair a "thesaurus" that disna aye gie exact English maiks
o
Scots wirds but a wheen wirds wi the selsame or seemilar meanin. Wirds
that's spelt the same but haes differin meanins comes oot an aw.

The "dictionar " comes wi the follaein wairnin: Gin ye're uisin the
dictionar for tae shup texts in Scots mynd an tak tent tae the richt
grammatical an syntactic uiss o wirds that ye're no acquent wi. Gin ye
sling
this a deifie it winna be Scots ye're writin, but haivers!

_____

At long last Scots-Online have managed to put an interactive English to
Scots "dictionary" online. The dictionary is, of course, only as good as
the
database behind it.

In the strictest sense of the word it can't be considered a proper
dictionary but more of a "thesaurus" which doesn't always return exact
English matches to Scots words but a number of words which have the same
or
a similar meaning. Words which are spelled the same are also returned.

The "dictionary" includes the following warning: If you are using this
dictionary to compose Scots texts ensure that you are aware of the
correct
semantic and grammatical use of words you are unfamiliar with. If you
ignore
this, what you are writing will not be Scots, but gibberish.

Congratulations and thanks, Andy.

I will add a link to it to our Scots online resources guide next week.

You, Sandy, Ian, Colin and John Magnus create great online resources for
Scots and inspire the rest of us.

Regards,
Reinhard/Ron
