Hi
Spreken sprak gesproken, bespreken, bespreking, afspreken, een
spreker,
all common dutch
(To speak, spoke spoken, to speak about ,meeting (talks), make a deal
or
date, a speaker, )
And in many Dutch dialects too. And I'm sure there are more too. All
still
in use.

Daar is _praoten_
over _spreken_ gaat: _klassinêren_ (druk over iets discus-
siëren), _prottekollen_ (tegenspreken), _lullen_, _raezen_ of
_raeskouzen_ , _wouwen_, _wouwelen_, _reutelen_,
_verabstikken_ , _babienen_, _rabbelen_, _taoteren_,
_ver'apstaerten_ (alle min of meer 'kletsen'), _frazelen_
(stamelen), _palaoberen_ (door elkaar praten; Frans:
'palabrer'), _schandelizeren_ (kwaad spreken), etc...
Groet!

Dag almal,
Ron het gevra: What about _spreek_ in Afrikaans?
Die woord is nog lewendig. Byvoorbeeld:
('booked')
Groete

The more common word is _praten_, and _spreken_ can indeed
sound a little _stilted_, though not archaic. In many cases,
though, _spreken_ has to be used, e.g.
Ik spreek Nederlands
