I remember have heard "vogeltje" for penis several times in NL in the
sixties. Didn't you forget the hacek on the c in [pta-tsjek]?

Pieter,

Leslie did write it with a c-hachek, but I failed to send the mailing out in
Unicode format, so the chracter defaulted to "c".  Sorry.  I will have to
get into the habit of looking for such "special" characters.  Or schould I
send *all* mailings out in that mode?  If I do, can anyone *not* read them?

I would think so - certainly we say "cock-ee'd" /kok i:d/ for
"cock-eyed" in Scots. And a hat can be cocked, or an ear (lug):

Anither ten year o gaitherin gear,

    As the Deil stept saft ootside.

"Cocky" as an adjective means "stroppy", but can be meant as a
compliment, such as a person who's rightly proud of their clothes
or something they've just done, so that "cockin" as a verb means
strutting about and pampering oneself:

They've lookit oot ilk title-deed,
    They've sortit ilka drainie:
I'm cockin i' the Frainchman's steed,
    -I'm Leddy Pouterlany!

"Cocky Breekie" is something schoolgirls do - it means pulling
the hem of the skirt backwards through the legs to make "breeks"
(trousers). They then dance while singing this variant of
"Babbity Bowster" ("minnie" means "mother"):

    Cocky Breekie brawly?
