Me naither. I hinna haurd it in _plate, taen, weak, whear_, but thare'll be
regional variations, as weel as the deein oot o the auld pronunciations.

Aye - but gin ye spell thae words wi EI, ye'r daein awa wi the sinderin
atween the EI/AE (heid, maet) an the EE/IE (weet, spier) phonemes, an the
diaphonological advantages at gangs alang wi spellin thaim different. I
think it's mair important ti sinder thae phonemes nor it is ti follae
tradeetional spellins o indiveedual words, speecially whan ye dinna need ti
alter monie. Coorse, ye coud uise EE for thae words - neest, etc.

Aye. I dinna ken hou it wad be possible ti inhaud this in onie aa-Scots
spellin, forby aye ti uise OU at the end o wirds, at Sooth Scots fowk wad
finnd aesier ti say [Vu] nor thay wad <ou>.
