Subject: ethymology

Hello Lowlanders!

Being back on the list at last (I just moved and had to wait three weeks
until
I was able again to receive mails) I have a little question:

Reading books about irish saints and english folk heroes while watching a
cat
walking beneath my window I started to wonder why tomcats are called
tomcats.
Has it to do with Saint Thomas? What does this saint have to do with cats?
I never heard of a special relationship between Saint Thomas and cats. Or
did
I miss something?
Has anybody an idea?

Thanks for helping!

Anja Meyfarth
