Hi, Luc,

thanks for your reply! i learn more everyday! i'm inclined to think that his
nickname referred to the spanish netherlands because another man in quebec
who was also from Sint-Omaars was also nicknamed "the Spaniard" during the
same period.

on the genetic front, which i was pleased to see you mention :-), my Y-DNA
signature which is passed down the centuries from father to son has been
positively identified as Viking in origin, so we all know what that means!
lol!  i guess my ancestors liked Flanders enough to stay! ;-)
