Leeve Luc,

on the first glance I was absolutely convinced  of Latin "vadere" as the
origin.
But- in all our languages it is just and exclusively used in connection with
water or mud.

What about (E): " wadi" [OXFORD: "{in the middle East, Arabia, Northern
Africa} rocky watercourse dry except after a heavy fall of rain" ?

pleseyr dat Twentsche Neddersassisch tou lesen tou krygen.

My dücht, dat wourd "scur" or "skur", na dat Du vragen deest, dat hangt mit
dat wourd "schuur" ~ "schuer" in de Noordsassischen dialekten vun
Düytschland tousamen. Up Nedderlandsche wys' wardt dat sachs "schoer"
schreven, un dat wardt as "s-choer" (as in Nedderlandsch) or as "schuur" (as
Ingelsch _sure_) uutspraken.

Dat bedüyden vun "schuur" ~ "schuer":
Ingelsch _(rain/hail/snow) shower_ (< Old-Ingelsch _scûr_), Düytsch
_Schauer_, Nedderlandsch _bui_.

Un meyr:
Ingelsch: bout, moment, short period, fever (attack)
Düytsch: Moment, Nu, Fieberanfall
Nedderlandsch: moment(je), koorts

Het dat Nedderlandsche düt wourd (*_schuur_) verlaren?

Ik neem an, Nedderlandsch _bui_ un Twentsch _búj_ sünd mit Noordsassisch
_böy_ (windstoot) un Düytsch _Bö(e)_ (windstoot < NS) verwandt.
