Hi Everyone,
I am writing you concerning my recently published book, "Beneden de
Zeespiegel: Een Amerikaan in Holland" (Uitgeverij Balans, 2003), which may
be of interest to you.

This entertaining book is a collection of stories, anecdotes and essays
about the Dutch people and their culture written from the perspective an
American who lived and worked in the Netherlands.  In contrast with many
other books about the Netherlands by foreigners, this book avoids the usual
clichés and stereotypes.  The book is in Dutch (an English version may
follow).

The book has been well received in the Netherlands.

peculiarities are seen through American eyes and described in entertaining

this case Steven Stupp, describes the Netherlands in a tight 200-page book.
Stupp’s predecessors have laid many of our faults bare, but there are
original angles of attack.  The writer has a point when he breaks his staff
on the Dutch driver’s license.  Here there is talk of a bizarre and
extremely ritualized badge of honor, the likes of which you won’t find
anywhere else in the world.  At the same time, traffic on Dutch roads is not
without risks due to the numerous exceptions to the principal rule.
According to the author, this form of law goes back to the code penal of
Napoleon, and is unheard of in the United Sta! tes.
