in usse Mönsterlänner Plat hät de Vuëgel Nucifraga caryocatactes Dannenkodde
wat soviël äs Dannenswien hät. In´t Engelske wät he nutcracker näömt. De
Naomen häb niks metneen to doon. Kümp de platdüütske Naome daovan, de sien
Ropen bolle so lüt äs dat Geren van´t Swien?
Dear Lowlanders,
In the Low Saxon Language of the Munsterland area the bird Nucifraga
caryocatactes , English nutcracker, is called Dannenkodde which häs the
meaning of pig in the fir. Both name look very different. Does the plat name
come from the call of this bird which sounds lik the grunting of a pig?
