An actually not so minor correction to the "eggys/eyren"
communication problem:  the text quoted by William Parker was written
by William Caxton, not Chaucer.  It's from the preface to Caxton's
translation of a French prose rendering of Virgil's Aeneid, printed by
Caxton himself in 1490--hence, about a hundred years after Chaucer,
during which time English had changed considerably.
