Probably indifferent - anyone can wear a kilt anywhere. In
the Somerset village where I live it's not unusual to see
people wearing highland dress for weddings. It's just smart.
There are, like I said, societies which will object to
what they consider to be "improper" use of the kilt. An
example of someone they consider improper would be Jean-Paul
Gaultier, who used to present a programme called "Eurotrash"
wearing (sometimes outsize) kilts with teeshirts and ordinary
socks and suchlike, and not tartan, either, if I remember
right! One association that sets itself up to regulate
kilt-wearing had an article in The Scotsman to say that
he should be stopped. I think they have far too much time on
their hands!
But I don't think many ordinary Scottish people would object
to or even look twice at a "foreigner" wearing a kilt.
