I only know that we in Danish use "facon" [fæssong] meaning something
like manner.

Maybe we got it though Low Saxon? or the other way around,

Well, Ron, those words came from wrong French words. For fashion, as in
"That dress is in vogue right now" is "La mode."
Façon is like saying, "In that way." In that sense that loan is correct,
but
the other sense is weird. As for

méchant, you are right. It means spiteful or malicious. I cannot say if
other Lowlanders use it, but it is a good word.

"Muck" is fine in Scots, but no the maist obvious wird here. Try
thir:

glaur: gey weet or wattery syle;
clart: filth;
shairn: the smitherin o faeces fae kye on ferm roads;

derived adjectives: glaury, clarty, shairny;
derived verbs: tae clart; (past tense: clartit);

Thir's wirds aabody kens, I dinna gang howkin at aa thae orra
wirdlists in the Scots Thesaurus!

I know, but that's how it is, and I think at the root of it is the lack
of inherent Germanic distinction between the two concepts, hence
confusion.  Dating myself again, I also remember that in Germany in the
1960s the latest styles of men's haircuts were called _Façon-Schnitt_
(rather than *_Modeschnitt_).

Don't you also get a certain amount of confusion between "mode" and
"fashion" (and "manner") in English, at different times and in different
contexts (jargons)?
