Beste Mike (and other liëglanners of course),

One of your teachers must have misunderstood what the second sound shift
was about, I'm afraid...

The second sound shift originated precisely in the Southern part of the
Germanic speaking regions, so it was in full effect in what is now
called Switzerland (and Austria).
The second sound shift however did not reach Old Saxon; that's why
phonetically speaking present-day Low Saxon and Schwyzerdüütsch are
worlds apart (regarding this feature).

Dear All,

Had a problem with my mail server and several messages were bounced
including, I think, the last one or two digests
from LL. Don't know if anyone responded to my querry about the Ds
pronounciation in the first line of poetry I sent or
not. If someone did, do you suppose you could forward on to me that
(those) responses? I'd really appreciate it.

Wouldn't you know that the one odd time I post a question, something
would go on the 'Fritz'? :-)
