That makes sense as the Fires language has been traced along the coast of
Belgium until Duncerque ( Duinkerken).Roeliena Van Zanten

Roeliena,

In order to let others, especially newcomers, know what you responded to
above, I will post Roger's original announcement again below.

For those of you who do not read Dutch let me just summarize that
archeological finds in Zele near Dendermonde reportedly prove 3rd-century
Frisian presence in Eastern Flanders, giving rise to the hypothesis that
groups of Frisians escaped their wet homeland for the drier southern inland.

I totally agree with Roger in asking what specifically points to Frisians
rather than to Franconians. I add Saxons to this, given that Saxons are
known to have colonized parts of what are now the Belgian and French coasts
and may have well spread to what is now Eastern Flanders by way of land
either from the coast or from what are now the eastern parts of the
Netherlands and the northern parts of Germany. What made those finds
specifically Frisian?

Reinhard/Ron

-- end quote

It's not clear to me from this text on what ground they identified what they
found as Frisian, rather than Franconian.

Regards,

Roger
