Folks,

I'm wondering about the Finnish word _nakki_ (or _nakkimakkara_ "nakki
sausage") for 'wiener (sausage)', 'frankfurter'. Is there any connection
with German _Knackwurst_ or Lowlands Saxon _knakworst_ (<Knackworst>)? If
so, did it enter Finnish directly? I am asking this because I cannot think
of any intermediate Swedish word (which doesn't mean there is none). I am
pretty familiar with _makkara_ 'sausage' (generic), remember Finnish ones
(and Finnish food generally) fondly, especially the type called
_saunamakkara_. (Yes, people *eat* in Finland's saunas!)

In Estonian, the specific word seems to be _viiner_, and the generic words
seems to be _vorst_, clearly a LS loan.

Thanks!
Reinhard/Ron
