Ron,

My atlas doesn't turn up anything that could have been called a city in
England resembling the name "Rowan" in the slightest.

But I notice that the text doesn't actually say that Rowan is in England. Is
it possible that Olaf studied Christianity in England then went to Rouen to
get baptized by some pope or other?

Hi Ron,

I think your word "amhacht" might have to be read as "ambacht". That makes
more sense to me anyway. An "ambacht" generally means "a profession" in
Dutch. In Middle Saxon it (also) meant more specifically "als priesterliche
Dienstverrichtung Amt, Hochamt, Messe, überh. Sacrament" (from August
Lübben's Mittelniederdeutsches Handwörterbuch").
