Latha math, a Lowlanders,
Mostly I hear "huge" as /hyudzh/, and /yudzh/ sounds abnormal to me. I
always notice it. I notice /hw/, too, but that's the amateur linguist in me.
However, most of my friends and colleagues notice the /hw/. For example,
when I use it (which is completely random, depending on whether or not I'm
thinking about it), they notice it and comment on it. I have relatives from
the South (North Carolina in particular) who pronounce it as /hw/. So, here
in Massachusetts, most people don't pronounce it.
