From: Sandy Fleming [sandy at scotstext.org]
Subject: "Morphology"
English Scots
go gae
went gaed/went
going gaun/gaein
In Scots there are also forms which are sometimes thought of as more akin to
actual motion, especially walking:
English Scots
go gang
went ganged
going gangin
These are somewhat eroded in many modern dialects. In my dialect they'd be:
English Scots
go gaun
went went
going gaun
going to gau'/gaun'ae
Pronunciations:
gae /ge:/
gaed /ge:d/
gaun /gQ:n/
gang /ga:N/
ganged /ga:Nd/
gangin /'ga:NIn/
gau' /gQ:/
gau'nae /'gQnI/

Subject: Morphology
I gave the North Saxon forms of 'to go':
> Infinitive: gaan
> Present indicative: ik ga, du gayst, hey/sey/it~dat gayt, wy/jy/sey gaat
~ gaan
> Past indicative: ik güng, du güngst, hey/sey/it~dat güng, wy/jy/sey
> güngen
> Past participle: (gegaan >) gaan
Following Sandy's example above, here is the same phonetically represented:
SAMPA (http://www.phon.ucl.ac.uk/home/sampa/home.htm):
Infinitive: gQ:n
Present indicative: ?Ik gQ:, du: ga.Is(t), hEI/zEI/?It~dat ga.It,
vi:/(d)ji:/zEI gQ:t ~ gQ:n
Past indicative: ?Ik gY.N, du: gY.Ngs(t), hEI/zEI/?It~dat gY.N,
vi:/(d)ji:/zEI gY.N:
Past participle: gQ:n
IPA (http://www2.arts.gla.ac.uk/IPA/ipa.html):
Infinitive: gɒːn
Present indicative: ʔɪk gɒː, du: gaˑɪs(t), hɛɪ/zɛɪ/?It~dat gaˑɪt,
viː/(d)jiː/zɛɪ gɒːt ~ gɒːn
Past indicative: ʔɪk gʏˑŋ, du: gʏˑŋgs(t), hɛɪ/zɛɪ/ʔɪt~dat gʏˑŋ,
viː/(d)jiː/zɛɪ gʏˑŋː
Past participle: gɒːn

Reinhard/Ron
