Well, mine is only eleven today (this is the youngest), so we've only
reached pre-teenhood so far. But in her case, I discovered on Christmas Eve
that I was pregnant, so her middle name is Nathalie.

My own birhtday is Guy Fawkes' Day, of course: Remember, remember the fifth
of November - gunpowder, treason and plot!

Speaking of birthdays, are there any special Lowlands birthday traditions
(besides giving your children an extra spanking)? Personally, I don't know
of any, except for traditions that vary from family to family, or that are
roughly the same all over Germany.

Well, for one thing, the "birthday child" in Germany, though getting
presents, is the one that has to treat others (i.e., pay for drinks and
meals, invite folks, even arrange the party), while in English-speaking
countries the birthday child gets treated and pampered, often "surprised,"
by others.  I've always preferred the latter.

I don't know how it is in other countries or regions.
