Subject: Holidays
Dear Lowlanders,
For those of you in the Northern Hemisphere, happy Winter Solstice, Yule,
Alban Arthuan, and to those of you down under, happy Summer Solstice, Alban
Heruin, Litha!
Also, happy Forefathers' Day for everyone in and from the United States of
America!
To those of you who observe religious Jewish holidays, best wishes for
tomorrow's Asara b'Tevet!
Happy Emperor's Birthday on the Day after that to our Japanese members and
Queens Birthday for those in Sweden -- and welcome to those of you who
recently joined us!
And then there will be Christmas Eve for those of you who celebrate
Christmas. In Northern Germany Christmas Eve is the most important part of
Christmas, at least for children, because that's when gifts are exchanged.
And happy Kwaanza for those who want to celebrate African heritage on
December 26!
I'll be on the road to California then. Since no member of the team seems
to be available all the time during the Christmas and New Year's holidays,
LL-L broadcasting might be spotty until my return to Seattle early in the
second week of January, though I will try to serve you from the San
Francisco area if this can be arranged. Please don't worry if you don't
hear anything for a few days. Your submissions will be in a queue and will
be posted as soon as that can be arranged. So you definitely do not need to
hold back.
And then we'll say good-bye to 2004. There will be much revelry on New
Year's Eve in many countries, with the usual to-do for Hogmanay in Scotland,
and the ouverture of the splendid New Year's season in Japan (the thought of
which brings back pleasant memories). And it's going to be our own Sandy
Fleming's birthday. Happy birthday, Sandy!
For Sandy and the end of 2004, you might like to sing the customary song
"Auld Lang Syne." Sandy and I put together a page for this in Scots,
