Results of a poll published in the "Belang van Limburg" of Dec 29, 2003.
(5000 readers from Belgian Limburg answered the questionary)

Can you still speak the (Limburgish) dialect of your region?

Men :               72.8 % yes       27.2 % no
Women :          64.6 % yes       35.4 % no
Total :               68.7 % yes       31.3 % no

Age :

Under  26         54.5 % yes      45.5 % no
26-45               67.7 % yes      32.4 % no
46-65               80 % yes          20 % no

Feeling of national belonging":

men :
Limburgish:                41.2 %
Flemish:                      24.6 %
Belgian:                      23.9 %
European:                   10.3 %

women :
Limburgish:                 53.9 %
Flemish:                     15.9 %
Belgian:                      21.8 %
European:                   8.3  %

total :
Limburgish:                47.4 %
Flemish:                     20.3 %
Belgian:                      22.9 %
European: :                 9.3 %

under 26:
Limburgish:               56.4 %
Flemish:                    16.9 %

Limburgish:                  44.6 %

Young people apparently have a stronger Limburgish national feeling. This
looks contradictory though with the drop of the utilization of Limburgish
dialects by those youngsters.
