    Nog 'n ding oor konsonante tussen vokale in Afrikaans. Een Rotterdam se
meisie vra my uit oor Afrikaans, "hoe spreekt uw 'hebben'? ' "
    En ek antwoord, "Hè. Die volle woord bestaan nou net in die vorm bv
'gesaghebbende'."
    "Maar," kla sy, "meer as de helfde van de woord is weg!"
    U weet seker lankal, Ron, maar weet andere hoe onsmaaklik ons hierdie
konsonant tussen vokale vind?
    Laager = laër
    Brugge = bruë - onder vele andere, en
    Mahoeniehout = mahogany
