OK, I think most of us agree that linguistic discrimination exisits,
just as racist attitudes exist. Usually this is practised by a powerful
group against a less powerful group.
However, I can also understand that some languages with less speakers
feel that they might be overwhelmed by overinfluence from others.
Catalan is a minority language in Spain and Southern France and its
speakers feel that they are being overrun by Spanish as a language. The
latest shock is that 60% of the new primary school intake is made up of
immigrant children.
How can you reason with people feeling lingustically drowned without
sounding indifferent?
