<ou> to <ai> is not exactly the same as Afr. <ui> to <ai>, because Afr.
<ou> doesn't become <ai> but keeps its value, but probably this N. Irish
Engl. process had an intermediate stadium where <ou> went <ui> first, and
then <ui> became <ai>.

I'll give a tip for all non-Dutch how to pronounce <ui> easily:
first say [a] (like in Dutch, German, Italian, Spanish etc) and then say
[y](=Dutch/French <u>, German <ü>, Scandinavian <y>).
So: huis = ha~üs, ha~us, ha~ys, and Spui = spa~ü, spa~u, spa~y, etc.
