It probably won't surprise you, but the recent 'Etymologisch woordenboek
van het Nederlands' (2002; volume A-E) relates Dutch 'ajuus', 'aju' to
French 'adieu'.

And here's what it says on Dutch 'ahoi':

Ontleend aan Engels 'ahoy', een roep gebruikt om met name schepen aan te
roepen [1751; OED]. De herkomst van het woord is niet bekend, maar
wrsch. gaat het om een uitbreiding van de roep 'hoy', die ook in het
Nederlands ('hoi!') en andere talen voorkomt.

In het citaat van 1908 ["Dan stuwt hij met donderend ahoei het
hemelhooge geweld onweerstaanbaar tegen de laatste duinen" - PH] lijkt
het woord 'lawaai' of mogelijk ook 'begroeting' te betekenen, wat dan
een betekenisuitbreiding van 'ahoi' in de combinatie 'schip ahoi' als
aanroep van passerende schepen kan zijn. De combinatie is wrsch.
[waarschijnlijk - PH] al in de 19e eeuw overgenomen uit het Engels.

Inmiddels niet meer gebruikelijk als groet, maar als term nog vrij
algemeen bekend. In 1956 wordt al gezegd dat de roep verouderd zou zijn
[Kolsteren].

Het Tsjechisch heeft zijn inmiddels zeer gebruikelijke informele
begroetingswoord 'ahoi' [should be 'ahoj' - PH] mogelijk uit het
Nederlands overgenomen, maar waarschijnlijker is ontlening aan
Noord-Duitse schippers op de Elbe.

It is not yet known what the dictionary says about Dutch 'hoi'. The
second volume will be officially presented at the biennial congress of
the Genootschap Onze Taal this November.
