This famed attention to detail used to be the case, but is rarer and rarer
nowadays.
It is particularly rare in sport, I find. News and current affairs have
higher
standards but even there the BBC no longer lives up to expectations -
witness the
erratic mispronunciation(s) of the name of the late Jean Charles de
Menezes, which
is usually pronounced as if French or Spanish (or a mixture of the two) or
simply
garbled (I have often heard "Me-nen-zez" and even "Men-eth-ez"), rather
than as
Brazilian Portuguese.
