Hawaiian:
* makamaka (friend, mate; cf. LS makker!)
We have "mucker" as mate in English too!
Fascinating stuff about Polynesian; Maori was in fact the first "foreign"
language I tried to learn, as a kid in New Zealand. Unfortunately the only
Maori kid I knew was shy about speaking it, and his family didn't like
Pakeha anyway.

Dag Leeglanners,
I have noticed the accumulating volume of responses our Ron is obliged to
make in the last days. We are extremely fortunate to have him as a father
confessor and, even better, our "Shaman Linguist" (or should we call him a
Linguist-Shaman?).
Anyway, like a doctor Ron makes prescriptions: "Take two aspirants and
e-mail me in the morning". ;-)
Met vriendelijke groetjes,
Arthur

Thanks, Arthur. Just for being nice and for lavishing some long needed
sympathy on poor, little me -- irrespective of whether or not you were
angling for it -- I bestow upon you (unlike upon certain other, now sorry
people) a most beauteous Hawaiian name while I'm still wearing my pareo:
Melekeikai'ākau
"Glorious Song of the Northern Coastal Lowlands"
'ākau (north)
kai (shore, coastal lowlands)
kei (to glory in, to take pride in, dignified, proud, glorious)
mele (poem, song)
And our Gabriele, of course:
Mō'īlānaipīnaki
"Queen of the Peanut Gallery"
lānai (balcony, gallery)
mō'ī (monarch)
pīnaki (peanut)

So *some* one appreciates me.
Well, I most modestly and humbly submit that the following would surfice for
now, of course in Hawaiian:
Kahuna 'Ōlelo Kai 'Ākau
'ākau (north)
kahuna (leader, chief, priest, shaman)
kai (shore, coastal lowlands)
'ōlelo (speech, language)
(Modifiers *follow* modifyees, by the way.)
Aloha, koʻu hoaloha!
Reinhard/Ron
(If that's too hard, simply call me Kahuna 'Ōlelo Kai 'Ākau.)
