I have heard it attributed to Lewis Carroll as one of his spelling riddles
for children.
It is the kind of thing that would have delighted him - as it reveals the
absurdity / inconsistency of English spelling.
A spelling convert is more likely to have suggested spelling the originals
:- enuff wimmin nashun
